Man and woman arrested for theft after police give chase

A man and woman have been arrested in relation to a number of thefts after police gave chase to them yesterday (Thursday).

Police received a report at 12pm of a sighting of a man and woman who had been involved in previous thefts from chemist shops.

A description of the pair was circulated and police received a further report of the pair running along William Street at 1pm.

Officers on patrol identified themselves to the man and woman who made off. Officers gave chase on foot and a 26-year-old woman was detained. She was arrested on suspicion of theft in relation to thefts in Portadown, Magherafelt and Cookstown.

Members of the public reported the male in Shillington Street and police arrested a 31-year-old man in relation to theft, four outstanding bench warrants, a money warrant and breach of bail.

The woman was interviewed and later arrested on bail pending further enquiries. The man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
