A man who assaulted a 15-year-old boy, leaving him with a sore head and ear, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Patrick Joseph Ward, of Churchhill Park, Portadown, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence on September 27, 2013.

The court heard the 28-year-old defendant was interviewed two weeks later and originally said he had nothing to do with it.

District Judge Mervyn Bates said it was a “nasty offence against a child” and sentenced him to five months in prison, suspended for two years.
