A Portadown man who assaulted his wife was put on probation for 12 months when he appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Forty-two-year-old Rory Randolph Robinson, Ulsterville Park, Portadown, admitted the offence which happened on October 6 last year.

Robinson was also fined £150, with a £15 offender’s levy, and banned for 12 months for driving with excess alcohol on the same date.

The court heard that police were called to Westland Road after a report of a domestic incident. A female, who was highly distressed, said she had just been assaulted by her husband who had driven off in her vehicle.

The defendant was located a short time later. He was in bed and the car keys were on the bedside table. He smelled of alcohol and a breath test gave a reading of 57.

The victim had bruising to her left arm and was sore in the ribs area.

Mr Richard Monteith, representing Robinson, said there had been nothing between the parties since this incident.
