Mayor passes on sympathies of death of child

Tragedy has struck the family of an Ulster Unionist candidate in the Assembly election after his young grandson died during the night on Tuesday.

Doug Beattie, a councillor in Portadown, is one of three UUP candidates on ballot papers in Upper Bann.

But on Tuesday night the former Royal Irish Regiment captain’s 15-month old grandson, Cameron Tindale, passed away in his sleep.

In a brief statement released through the party, Mr Beattie asked that his family “be given privacy at this time to grieve”.

The Lord Mayor of Armagh City Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Councillor Darryn Causby on behalf of all the Members of Council offered condolences to Councillor Beattie on the death of his young grandchild.

“As a Council we sympathise with Councillor Beattie and his family on this tragic loss.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very sad time”.
