Councillors have been asked to consider reduced hours for the three indoor leisure centres over the summer period.
Officers across the three leisure centres - Cascades, Craigavon Leisure Centre and Waves - have been monitoring the usage of facilities during holiday periods with particular attention to evening times in order to provide for more efficient operations.
At Cascades, based on these user group figures and the timings of previous summer holiday periods, officers
suggested closing the pool at 8.30pm and the gym at 9pm (a reduction in operations of one hour) during the months of July and August.
The move would offer potential savings of £2,000 on wages as well as reduced energy costs.
The matter came before the leisure services committee on June 19 and was referred to the mid monthly council meeting on June 23.
At this meeting the decision was taken to defer the proposed reduced hours pending a complete review of leisure centre opening hours.
DUP Councillor Lockhart, who has garnered unanimous support from all parties to review the opening hours of the centres, said: “I will be working with council officials to review the opening times and to come up with a plan to try and ensure it is responsive to the needs of rate payers.”
