William Coulter, Tullygarden Road, Richhill, was fined £150 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving without insurance on November 25 last year. He was also given six penalty points.

The court heard he was stopped while driving on the Northway and police checks revealed he was not a named driver on the insurance policy.

On November 27 he called at Portadown police station and admitted he was not insured at the time due to an oversight by his father who arranged insurance for the vehicle.

A solicitor representing the defendant said his client was very surprised that he was not insured.

He added that it was Coulter’s mother’s car and the insurance had been arranged online by his father. When they realised what happened insurance was immediately obtained for the defendant.

The solicitor said that Coulter, who had no previous convictions, was going to work when he was stopped.
