A patient who slapped a nurse on the face was fined £150 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for assault.
Forty two year old Stephen McMullan, Deramore Drive, Portadown, was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that at 9.45am on December 3 last year police received a report of an assault at the Silverwood ward at the Bluestone unit in Craigavon.
McMullan, who was a patient in the unit, had slapped the injured party once to the left side of her face.
While police were there he did approach and offer an apology to the victim.
A defending solicitor for McMullan said he had made a full admission and was apologetic.
District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said it was not pre-meditated but what was concerning was that it happened while the injured party was carrying out her duties.
