The lack of parking at Craigavon Area Hospital has prompted complaints from two members of the public.

One local woman spent almost 25 minutes on Tuesday morning trying to park before her 10.15 appointment.

She said, “I had given up but was stuck in a queue of cars in front of the ‘car park full’ sign for five minutes.

“I was just about to drive away when a space became free. There was still a queue of cars right round the corner.”

Meanwhile, Caroline McCotter missed her appointment at 10am on Monday after she was unable to find a space.

She said, “I had left work without my purse so I wasn’t able to use the pay car park.

“I drove around for 20 minutes before giving up. I had gone for physio and trying to reverse was painful.”

A spokesperson for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust said demand for parking had risen with the introduction of new services at the hospital, and that 60 extra spaces had been provided this year.

She added that records showed there were spaces available in the paid car parks on both days.
