After stopping a car which had a defective headlight police uncovered a small quantity of cannabis when they searched the vehicle.
Forty-three-year-old Joseph Patrick Cunningham whose address was given as Drumbeg North, Craigavon, was fined £75 for possession of cannabis on April 30 this year.
He was also fined £25 on each of two charges of having a defective tyre, £25 for a defective headlight and £50, with three penalty points, for not having a driving licence.
As well he was ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard police were performing a vehicle checkpoint on the Avenue Road in Lurgan when they noticed a car with its front passenger headlight not working.
The two front tyres on the vehicle were defective and it was discovered the defendant’s driving licence had expired.
On searching the vehicle police found a small quantity of cannabis.
A defence solicitor representing Cunningham said he had been driving for 20 years.
The defects on the vehicle had now been rectified, the solicitor added.
