Part of the dancing crew in the viral video by PSNI Craigavon were the squad who air lifted injured racer Ryan Farquhar to hospital.

The helicopter crew were filmed landing on their way back from Newry having helped with a missing person search when they were roped into the Running Man dance video.

The same crew were the team who had previously airlifted the badly injured biker from the Northwest 200 to hospital.

The video has gone viral internationally and though, on the whole, was highly praised, some criticised the PSNI for wasting taxpayers money.

In response Superintendent Davy Moore went on the airwaves to rebuke the criticism.

And this afternoon the PSNI took to Facebook to respond.

In a statement they said: “Afternoon folks, indeed good afternoon world from what I can see!

“Wow. Lost for words. The feedback here has been amazing! Well, mostly.

“Some of you may have heard Superintedent Davy Moore on Downtown Radio there, but for those who didn’t, and particularly all the offended tax payers, here’s the headlines from that:

“The chopper we filmed landing was on its way back from Newry from having helped with a missing person search. The crew that were dancing (probably the best uniformed dancers we have!) were the crew who successfully air lifted Ryan Farquhar from the Northwest 200. Contrary to popular belief, our Air Support Unit do not fly around with X-ray cameras looking for sleeping people to hover low over their houses. A lot of time is spent waiting for incidents to assist with. In fact, getting them to dance could well have saved the tax payer several tea bags.

“As for the TSG, that was filmed just as they came on duty and were about to leave base for routine patrols elsewhere. They were delayed for maybe 5 minutes.

“The Kinego Embankment scene was shot using officers who were on a youth parade duty. Once the parade went into the church the officers came to Kinego, filmed for 5 minutes, then went back to the church for the return leg, therefore skipping any toilet or tea break. More tea bags saved.

“The Titanic bit was us after shift going on a road trip to the big smoke and hooking in with a local crew. Think of it as an unconventional and badly choreographed foot patrol.

“As for the dancing at Gordon playing fields, we were on duty at the Craigavon Cup there anyway. The organisers, coaches, kids, parents and...if you look closely...Lord Mayor and recently elected MLA were superb in getting involved and helping us out.

“As for the dancing in town with the FADD dance studios dance crew, I don’t think even the most hard line offended tax payer complained about that!

“The thing we can all agree on is that I can’t dance. Ah well.

“Finally, it is with a heavy heart that I can confirm that Craig the Craigavon dog is no more. His real life big brother Jake doesn’t play nicely. Criminals beware, when you hear the words “Police dog!”, stop and stay very, very still. Thanks again folks!”
