The court heard that at 1.25am in Churchill Park, Portadown, a bag of white powder was found on the defendant who was heavily intoxicated through drink or drugs.

It contained £40 worth of cocaine.

Hyde was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital because he said he had taken ecstasy tablets.

When interviewed he said he was surprised as police that a bag of white powder had been found in his pocket but he would ‘take the rap’.

Mr Richard Monteith, representing the defendant, said Hyde was about to leave the jurisdiction.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, said Hyde had a limited record but this was his third drugs conviction, the previous two for class B drugs.

He added that a pre-sentence report showed that the defendant was a young man who was maturing.

Hyde said he was going to England to do plumbing work.
