There was good natured jostling between canvassers for votes at Millington Primary School in Portadown yesterday.

A steady stream of voters made their way to the polling station throughout yesterday with some estimates that it was on target to see around a 60pc turn out.

Voters from both the Portadown and Craigavon Wards cast their votes at Edenderry Primary School for yesterday's local elections. And being canvassed on their way in  are Colin and Frances Finn from the Killicomaine area which was 'split' by the new boundaries. DUP's Robert Smith (left) hopes to return for Craigavon, while Terry McWilliams is vying for Portadown, having been elected to the old Orchard Ward in Armagh last time. The new ABC council will unite Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon.

A random sample of voters who spoke to the News Letter spoke passionately both for and against same-sex marriage and also on both sides of the immigration debate.

Several current and retired civil servants said they wished to backdated pay claims settled or see their pay and pensions improved.
