Although she was barred from a Portadown shop a 48 year old woman went in and stole goods, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.
Kathleen Ward, Ballyoran Manor, Portadown, admitted entering as a trespasser the Poundland shop in Magowan Buildings on February 3 this year and stealing groceries.
She was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay compensation of £6.
The court heard she was identified on CCTV when she went into the shop and took items before leaving without paying for them. She was barred from the store.
When interviewed she admitted taking some of the items but said she was not aware she was not allowed in the store. Her solicitor said she had just ‘gone in on a whim’ that day.
District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the fact that this was prosecuted as a burglary because she was not permitted on the premises raised the bar in the matter.
