Almost 300 homes approved

THE planners have given the green light of approval to 264 new homes on two sites on the outskirts of Portadown.

The bigger of the two is at Kernan Hill Road where an application for 178 homes by Antrim Construction was confirmed at the borough council’s mid-monthly meeting. The agents are Alan Patterson Design of Helen’s Bay.

A spokeswoman for the County Down design firm confirmed it was a revised proposal, and that detailed design would follow as soon as possible.

The smaller of the two developments is for a firm of developers, Windsor Securities of Lisburn, and the agents are Portadown architects David McMaster of Mahon Road. It is at Drumnagoon, close to Twinem Court.

A spokesman for McMaster’s said there would be 86 dwellings, a mixture of detached, semi-detached houses, bungalows, chalet bungalows and town houses. He added that work would start as soon as possible and they expected brisk sales in what was a buyer’s market.

Meanwhile, another 12 homes are on the way at Scotch Street, with the local Woolsey Developments building 12 semi-detached in the popular Timakeel Grange area, in what is a fast growing part of the Moy Road.
