Asda on target for opening date

ASDA has confirmed that it is on schedule to open its new £40 million store in Portadown on Monday, November 19.

Creating 450 permanent and part-time positions, the new store will bring 44,000 sqft of retail space as well as an Asda petrol filling station.

The new store will offer a broad range of food and non-food items, including the full George clothing and home-ware ranges, as well as providing spaces for over 700 cars.

The entire staff, or colleagues as they call each other, met for the first time last weekend and general store manager Robert Ryans said that great excitement was already mounting among both customers and colleagues.

“Preparations for the grand opening of the Asda Portadown store have been gearing up in the last few weeks and I’m pleased to say that we are on schedule to open on November 19. We’re preparing for a day of celebration and excitement and have a very special ‘Northern Ireland hero’ joining us for the grand opening.

“Asda prides itself on listening to customer feedback and the ‘Tell Asda’ scheme- a mechanism for gathering customer feedback through till receipts- has been instrumental in shaping the new store- allowing us to implement a number of initiatives important to our customers.”

Portadown will be the first store in Northern Ireland to offer the ‘Asda Click and Collect’ service, allowing customers to shop online and collect their groceries when convenient.

“We are also delighted that Asda Portadown will not only be dedicating more shelf space to local suppliers, but will include the McGee’s butcher concession,” added Mr Ryans.

“These counters have proved a huge success in our other NI stores, so we are delighted to be able to offer our local customers this same level of choice.”
