Brownstown car vandals turn to spray paint tactic

RESIDENTS in Brownstown are at their “wits end” after “thugs” spray painted eight vehicles last week in the latest spate of vandalism which has left motorists out of pocket yet again.
Eight cars in Glandore Terrace, Glandore Gardens and Glanroy Avenue were sprayed with gold and silver paint in an apparent random attack last Wednesday evening.
It marks the eighth time since last autumn residents have been targeted by vandals.
There are fears within the local community that the perpetrators responsible for puncturing car tyres over the past seven months, are also behind the latest spate of vandalism.
Councillor Darryn Causby said the acts of the “phantom” car vandal or vandals were hindering the lives of the “good people” who live in Brownstown.
“Again I find myself having to condemn these actions and again having to appeal for an end to this mindless and pointless criminality.
“The residents in this area are now at their wits end, week in week out there is always someone who has been affected by this thuggery and it must stop,” he said.
Mr Causby’s DUP colleague, Alderman Mrs Gladys McCullough, continued, “It is a disgrace that residents have been living in fear in this community, they are scared they will be the next target, they are scared they will face a huge bill for repairs to their car. The financial burden on people is bad enough without this nonsense, these are unnecessary and avoidable expenses and I also appeal for these attacks to stop.
“We would also appeal to the community to bring any information they may have to the PSNI. These vandals need caught and need brought before the courts.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who noticed any unusual activity in the area is asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
