Community service order for man who head-butted girl (14)
A PORTADOWN man who head-butted a 14-year-old girl was given 120 hours of community service at Criagavon Magistrates Court this week.
Alan McCreery, (21), of Ballybay Park, was also told by District Judge Alan White that he must pay 250 compensation to the injured party after he was convicted of assault.
A Crown lawyer said the prosecution had alleged that on April 6, 2008, McCreery approached the 14-year-old girl who was with friends in Ballybay Park.
The lawyer said evidence had been given that McCreery headbutted the girl, grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against a wall.

He said the defendant had alleged that the injured party had assaulted his sister in an earlier incident. When interviewed, he had denied the assault, and said that he asked the girl to apologise to his sister.
The lawyer said photographs handed into court showed marks on the girl’s throat.
Defending solicitor Mr Richard Monteith, said McCreery had contested the case, and been convicted, with sentence deferred until Friday for pre-sentence reports.
Mr Monteith said McCreery maintains that he did not head-butt the injured party, and claimed that the photographs handed into court supported his client’s claim.
Imposing sentence, Mr White told McCreery “It was totally unacceptable for a man of your age to assault a girl.”
