EIGHT new jobs are being created with the opening of a second branch of a local jewellery business.

Faith Jewellers, which has a shop in High Street Mall, will open its new store at Rushmere Shopping Centre in the first week in May.

The 2,100 sq ft unit will occupy the unit beside Costa Coffee and opposite Sainsbury’s, and will be almost twice the size of the High Street Mall store.

Portadown man Rodney Simmons, who owns the business, said four full-time and four part-time positions will be created. The store in High Street Mall employs three full-time staff and three part-time staff.

Mr Simmons, who opened the Portadown shop in October 2010, just four months after losing his job as general manager of Gems when the shop went into liquidation, said, “The store has been doing very, very well and the Rushmere opportunity was just too good to ignore.”

He puts the success of the business down to quality products at prices for everyone’s pocket, along with good customer service.

He said, “Prices start at £9.99 for children’s jewellery and go up to £3,000 for diamond rings, so we can help customers find a nice piece of jewellery no matter what their budget. We know what brands are popular and change our stock regularly, and this seems to have worked very well for us.”

The Rushmere store is hoping to replicate this success and will stock the same brands that have proved so popular - Thomas Sabo, Armani, Hugo Boss, Diesel, DKNY and Fossil.

Mr Simmons, who was born in the Derryanvil area, now lives in Derryhale with his wife and four young daughters. He has been in jewellery retail for around 12 years and named his business after his late mother Geraldine.

Said Mr Simmons, “I also wish to acknowledge the financial help of my father Alan and brother Kyle who helped me start my own business.”
