Family’s night of tribute to their ‘beautiful angel’

A SPECIAL night to remember and celebrate the life of Portadown girl Laura Robinson, who was killed in a car crash 10 years ago, will be held at Tartaraghan Church of Ireland church hall next week.
Laura was 21 when she died in the collision on the M1 on June 5, 2002 and the memorial event will be held next Tuesday, 10 years to the day since her death.
The Portadown girl was killed instantly along with her friend and colleague Leigh Creaney, from Lurgan, after a drunk driver sped down the fast lane of the motorway towards oncoming traffic.
Tuesday’s event, which has been organised by Laura’s family, will also be used to launch a charity single ‘Beautiful Angel’, written especially to mark the anniversary.
Her sister Louise said, “Laura was a gifted singer and songwriter who never got the chance to record her own work. She did, however, record a cover version of ‘The Power of Love’ the night before her death and our family released this song in 2002.
“Laura was passionate about music, how people relate to the lyrics and the impact they have on their lives. The song has been written especially for the occasion and is aiming to raise much needed funds for Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary.”
Laura, who worked at the Ulster Bank in Belfast, was a talented showjumper and, according to her sister, had an affinity with animals and was “always looking out for their welfare”.
The event starts at 6pm and will include a barbecue and live music as well as looking back at Laura’s life - the music and poetry she loved - and showcasing the song and the animal sanctuary.
Said Louise, “The family would like to see everyone who knew Laura, people who have been touched by the story and all friends and family to join them in celebrating her life and remembering her for who she was.”
‘Beautiful Angel’ has been written by Susan Hewitt, formerly from Loughgall and now living in Portadown, who also wrote a song shortlisted for the Eurovision Song Contest. It has been produced by Louise along with Belfast musicians Paul Hamilton and Andrew Wilson, who is also the vocalist.
A download is available from iTunes and all major online retailers. The CDs include exclusive videos and a bonus song while deluxe versions are also available with DVD.
They are available from www.thelrproject.com, Amazon and participating stores.
