Five people in court for littering

FIVE people were fined for littering offences at a sitting of Craigavon Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Sigita Adomaitye, Garvaghy Park, Portadown, was seen dropping litter at Marley Street car park, Portadown, on May 25 last year. He failed to reply to notices sent by Craigavon Borough Council and was convicted in court and fined £100 plus £115 costs.

Gary Donaldson, Ballyoran Terrace, Portadown, was fined £10 plus £115 costs for dropping litter at Bridge Street, Portadown, on June 27 last year.

Adam Galbraith, Baltylum Meadows, Portadown, was seen dropping litter at the Meadows Shopping Centre car park on July 20 last year. He denied the offence when served with a notice by Craigavon Borough Council but was convicted in court and fined £60 plus £115 costs.

John Carroll, Davis Street, Keady, was observed depositing litter at Edward Street, Portadown, on June 23 last year. He failed to fully comply with a notice sent by Craigavon Borough Council but was convicted in court and fined £60 plus £115 costs.

The magistrate refused Mr Carroll’s defence that there was a spider in the car and his daughter was scared of spiders, so he lifted it in an empty nuts packet and threw it out of the car window.

Christopher Lucas, Kilvergan Heights, Lurgan, was seen dropping litter at William Street, Lurgan, on August 1 last year. He denied committing the offence when served with a notice by Craigavon Borough Council but was convicted in court and fined £100 plus £112 costs.

Eight other cases were adjourned until next month as some of the defendants were unable to travel due to the snow.
