Fundraising concert on the way for Armagh Rd

A SPECIAL fundraising concert is being held in Armagh Road Presbyterian Church on Friday February 1 (7.45pm), with a wide range of talent from the church and from the community.

Topping the bill will be Portadown Male Voice Choir, under musical director Gordon Speers, who will be drawing on their wide repertoire of sacred and secular music.

Top of the sacred hymns will be the superb arrangement of St Clement (The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended), which was the final offering in the choir’s acclaimed CD released last year.

The secular numbers include the superb selection from Lionel Bart’s ‘Oliver!’, with hits like ‘Where is Love’, ‘Pick and Pocket’ and ‘Consider Yourself’

The DIY element of the concert is contained in two of the ‘stars’ - mezzo soprano Anna Nelson who is a member of the church choir and of ‘The Sopranos’ a trio of female singers who charmed the congregation at the recent ‘Candlelight Carols’.

Compere is Jim Smart, also in the church choir (tenor) and renowned as a compere throughout Northern Ireland, and no slouch on the ukulele.

Finally Ronnie Bothwell (flute) is a member of both the church choir and the male voice choir (bass) and his great talent (accompanied by church organist Rodney Spence) will complement a wonderful night out.

There is no admission charge but there will be a retiring collection - so go along and support the event.
