TWO local girls have shone in their heats at the Face of Northern Ireland competition, with one of them heading off to represent the province at Eurodisney in November.

Ellie Rose Delaney (8) was crowned Miss Charity Princess and will progress to the European heat in Paris, while Megan McQueen (6) from Laurelvale was second in the princess category.

Both girls and their families enjoyed a “fantastic” night at the Canal Court Hotel last Tuesday where the judging took place.

Ellie Rose, who lives in Rose Cottage on the Garvaghy Road, was one of two winners of the charity title after rasing £2,240 for the competition’s two nominated charities - Headway, which helps people affected by brain injury, and the Rainbow Child Foundation, which helps impoverished children around the world and was formed by X factor singer Chico.

Ellie Rose raised the money through a variety of fundraising events, including a bun sale and charity night, and shared the accolade with a Magherafelt girl, with the two eight-year-olds together raising £5,000.

Said Ellie Rose’s mum Siobhan, “That’s the total amount raised last year over both the junior and the senior heats so to raise that amount themselves is fantastic. We met the director of the Face of NI and a representative from Headway, and they were very impressed by the girls.”

Singer Chico even sent Ellie Rose a video clip thanking her for what she had done.

Ellie Rose, a pupil at Ballyoran PS, is looking forward to the Disney trip, when she will not only compete against entrants from all over Europe and other countries for the title of Face Of Europe but will also have plenty of free time to explore the delights of Disney.

Joining her on the trip will be her mum, sister Moe (13), aunts Cathy and Denise and cousin Luke (3).

Siobhan has thanked all the local sponsors who supported Ellie Rose - Neil Anderson from Orchid Studios Portadown, Sarah from Princess Ellie’s Boutique, Nigel O’Hara Jewellers, Sew Good in Portadown, Nola’s hair salon and Pure Beauty.

She said, “The whole town got behind Ellie Rose, leaving us humble, and I would like to thank everyone.”

Meanwhile, Megan, who is about to start primary two in Mullavilly Primary School, was one of 14 contestants in the princess category, and as well as having to take to the catwalk in three different outfits, the six-year-old was also asked about her interests.

Her mum Gail said, “Megan does singing and speech and drama so she was able to talk about those. She also did a photoshoot for a bridal magazine.”

Megan was accompanied to the ceremony by her mum, dad Ryan, brother Josh, granny Phyllis Wilson, her speech and drama teacher Judith Cornett and cousins Jake and Amy.

As part of her prize, Megan won an hour-long photoshoot with Image 31 in Lurgan, a family pass to the Iveagh cinema, a bouquet of flowers and a Disney Winnie the Pooh teddy bear,

Said Gail, “I would like to thank the organiser of Face of NI, Taylor-Rae Hamilton, for making it such a special night for Megan, Altered Images of Portadown for doing Megan’s hair and our friend Charlene Irwin for all her help and supporting her on the night.”
