Man is refused bail on series of charges
A PORTADOWN man charged with burglary and theft, criminal damage, and disorderly behaviour, was refused bail when he appeared via video link at Craigavon Magistrates Court on Friday.
Lawrence Creaney, (21), of Ballyoran Crescent, is alleged to have entered two dwelling houses at Markville, Portadown, stealing coins from one, and attempting to steal in the other, both on May 19.
Creaney is also alleged to have damaged a door window, and with disorderly behaviour at Sugar Island Road, Lurgan, on May 19.
Opposing bail, a Crown lawyer said there was a fear Creaney would commit further offences if released, and he said the defendant has previous convictions.
A defending solicitor said the current offences are the only outstanding matters in which he was involved, “and all other matters have been disposed of.”
The solicitor said Creaney has instructed him to enter a plea to all matters. A bail surety was available, and Creaney would agree to any conditions, including curfew, and a ban on alcohol.
Refusing him bail, District Judge Alan White said he had given Creaney bail on a previous occasion, and the opportunity on a previous occasion to co-operate with probation “but he let me down”.
Mr White added, “In my view there is the risk of the commission of further offences being committed”
In remanding Creaney in custody until August 7, to appear via video link, District Judge White told him he has the right to apply to the High Court.
