Markethill head in ‘final push’ call
THE principal of Markethill High School is calling on people to make sure they have their say on the future of post primary education by the closing date of today (Friday).
James Maxwell said a positive outcome could see Markethill High School gain a new build school on its current site and sixth form provision.
He said, “Since the Education Minister announced the consultation process, myself, staff, the pupils, their parents, the traders in the town, politicians and the Ulster Farmers’ Union have seen this as a real opportunity for Markethill High School. We have had an overwhelming amount of support.
“For the first time in the school’s history, there is a real chance for Markethill High School to build on its success, to continue to be at the heart of a rural community and to become a centre of academic excellence for our children.
“This is the final push. The reality is that we want to stay in Markethill. We want a new school and we want to provide sixth form education for children.”
He urged parents who hadn’t already done so to fill out the consultation form, available on the website www.markethillhighschool.net.
He added, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank people in advance for taking the time to fill out the form and I would like to thank everyone who has helped us to date. It has been tremendous and we are very hopeful for the future of education in Markethill.”
