The incident happened at the junction of Armagh Road and Brownstown Road, close to Shamrock Park.

At least one industrial wheelie was also set alight as police in riot gear moved in.

Earlier in the evening one of the protesters was injured after he was struck by a vehicle at Northway. The man was able to walk to an ambulance.

It is also understood that protesters threw several fireworks at police as they were stopped at the bottom of the Garvaghy Road.
