Police issue warning as burglar is disturbed

POLICE in Portadown are reminding residents to ensure their homes are secure following an attempted burglary at a house on Loughgall Road on Tuesday night.

Around 9.30pm a male entered the house but made off when the occupant disturbed him. The male is described as being around 5ft 8in tall with a shaved head and was wearing dark blue jeans and a white hoody. He made off on foot into an adjacent field and towards the Ballybay Meadows area.

Police are appealing to anyone who noticed this man in the area or has information in relation to this incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.

Householders should also remember to secure their homes and property at all times. People are urged to close and lock windows and doors at night or when the house is unoccupied and not to make it easy for the would-be burglar.

Consideration should also be given to installing a home security system and ensuring it is primed at night time or when you are away from home. Security lighting around the perimeter of your property can also act as a deterrent.

It is also wise to keep valuables out of sight.

If you would like more advice on protecting your home yuo can contact your local crime prevention officer on 0845 600 8000.
