Police suspend Caroline search after information
THE PSNI have suspended their search for the remains of missing teenager Caroline Graham in Carleton Street - after receiving new information from the public.
Detectives investigating Caroline’s murder in 1989 are appealing to any builders or anyone with information relating to a floor that may have been dug up and relaid in the Carlton Street area.
This would have occurred over a short space of time around Easter of 1989. The floor could now be either inside or outside.
The officer in charge, Detective Chief Inspector Gary Crawford, said “We are extremely grateful to members of the public who have come forward with information to assist our enquiries. This information will require further assessment and planning before the investigation can continue in its search phase.”
Detectives say they plan to liaise with a number of other agencies in the coming days as part of the murder investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Crawford continued, “Police intend to return to the Carlton Street area in the near future to resume search activity. Even though people have provided information to us as a result of recent appeals I would continue to urge anyone who knows what happened to Caroline to contact police.”
Caroline (19) vanished from the house she shared for two years with her boyfriend. A search for her remains in 2001 yielded nothing and those searches resumed in Carleton Street on Monday of last week using new technology.
Caroline’s mother Barbara Graham said, “I can take flowers to the grave of my mum and dad at birthdays and Christmas, but not to Caroline. The family would urge anyone with information to contact the police right away.”
Police can be contacted on the investigation team’s mobile 07585 228283 or by calling Police on 0845 600 8000.
Information can also be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
