Residents move to combat anti-social problems

THE residents of Corcrain and Redmanville have pledged to work with various agencies in a bid to stamp out antisocial behaviour in the Portadown estates.
The residents met with representatives from each of the agencies at a specially arranged meeting at St Columba’s Church Hall recently to discuss their concerns and what action can be taken.
The meeting also launched an information leaflet entitled ‘Anti-Social Behaviour – Take Action, Report It!’ which aims to provide useful information to the residents.
The partners in the initiative include the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), Craigavon Borough Council and the PSNI.
Councillor Alan Carson, chairman of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership, said, “Anti-social behaviour has a negative impact on the community. The residents of Corcrain and Redmanville are pro-active in working with the various authorities in an effort to combat this type of behaviour in their community.
“Ensuring residents know who to contact when activity such as vandalism or graffiti, nuisance neighbours or fly tipping occur is the first step towards dealing with anti-social behaviour.”
Developed by the council, PCSP, NI Housing Executive and the PSNI, the leaflet is one of a range of actions being implemented to support the Corcrain and Redmanville communities. It lists a series of anti-social activities and who they should be reported to including the contact details for the relevant agencies, making it easier for residents to know what to do.
The leaflet also highlights what action can be taken by the organisations and includes a list of useful contact numbers for other agencies which may be able to provide assistance with other issues.
Mr Carson added, “The local community will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in their area and PCSP, the Housing Executive, Council and PSNI are committed to supporting the local people and residents associations in getting this message across to those who are intent on causing disruption.”
