Sixty parking spaces for hospital

THE Southern Health and Social Care Trust have submitted plans to create an additional 60 car parking spaces for staff and patients at Craigavon Area Hospital.

The trust intends the parking spaces, which will be created with the aim of alleviating parking pressure on the site, to be on a voluntary pay basis.

A trust spokeswoman said that the new car park, which is to be based behind the ambulance station, will make it more convenient for patients due to the closer proximity to the hospital building.

“The introduction of paid car parking has made it easier for those patients who wish to pay for the convenience of parking close to the hospital and we hope that these planned new spaces for staff will further improve traffic management at the hospital,” she said.

There are currently a number of construction projects taking place at the hospital which are causing traffic disruption.

The spokeswoman continued, “With the continued development and introduction of new services at the Craigavon Area Hospital over the recent years, the demand for car parking has risen so we are continually looking for ways to alleviate traffic pressures.

“This involves introducing additional spaces along with exploring ways to improve traffic flow around the site.

“There are currently a number of construction projects ongoing around the site. Staff are making every effort to minimise disruption as this work continues and we would like to thank the public for their continued co-operation and support whilst we make these improvements to the hospital.”

As the trust waits for a response to their application for additional parking they ask for patients and staff to use public transport or the drop off zone, if possible, to ease disruption.

“We recommend that people allow plenty of time when attending the hospital or as an alternative option use the bus, or get dropped off and collected,” added the spokeswoman. “People are also reminded that only cars displaying blue badges are permitted to park in designated spaces and to park within white lines to ensure that all spaces can be used,” the spokeswoman said.
