THE future of the Tandragee 100 road race has received a boost with confirmation that the Cooleyhill Road is to be resurfaced.
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy, a Newry and Armagh MLA, made the announcement following a meeting with representatives of the Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club Ltd.
The Minister said, “The work at Cooleyhill Road is representative of a number of road resurfacing schemes which have been carried out and others which are being planned in the Armagh area. They will improve the structural condition of a number of roads and will enhance safety by improving their running surfaces.”
Ulster Unionist Councillor Robert Turner, who is a member of the North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club’s motorcycle section, said the improvements would benefit both road users and participants in the Tandragee 100 road races.
He said, “On behalf of the club I would like to pay tribute to both Minister Kennedy and Mr John Hall, the section engineer of the DRD’s Armagh office for their assistance. They appreciated that the road surface was clearly not up to standard and the improvements will be welcomed by road users in general and all associated with the Tandragee 100 Road Race, the third largest in Northern Ireland.
“The works will certainly be a major benefit to the club in terms of safety of competitors which is paramount and I warmly welcome this announcement.”
Motorists have been warned to expect delays when the work is taking place.
