TANDRAGEE man Jimmy Uprichard, who lives day-to-day with a brain injury, has received a certificate from the Cedar Foundation for completing an emergency first aid course.

Jimmy was presented with a certificate at a special celebration event to mark the recent achievements of participants assigned to Cedar’s brain injury services.

The Newry-based foundation aims to enable people surviving Brain Injury to achieve their personal goals for returning to work, gaining qualifications and having an active life.

The Tandragee man was one of a number of people who completed an accredited Level two emergency first aid course and/or disability equality training.

The two-day emergency first aid course was delivered by Training and Recruitment House Ltd in Portadown. During the course participants learn how to carry out a primary survey, respond to an emergency situation, demonstrate effective CPR, place a casualty in the recovery position and treat minor injuries.

A number of participants also took part in a half-day disability equality training session delivered by Cedar’s brain injury service staff which aims to help participants gain a better understanding of disability and the rights of disabled people, the Disability Discrimination Act and how non-disabled people should communicate with disabled people.
