Teenagers posing as YMCA collectors
A DUP councillor has warned local people to be on the look out for teenagers knocking on the doors asking for money while posing as collectors for the YMCA.
Darryn Causby’s warning comes as police confirmed that they have received reports of two teenage girls asking for money from householders.
The revelation has prompted Portadown’s Neighbourhood Policing Team to remind householders not to offer money to callers to your door unless you are sure of their identity.
Mr Causby said the YMCA have confirmed they haven’t organised any collections or sponsorship events.
“I would urge anyone who thinks they may have been duped by these teens to contact the police,” he said.
Constable McGurk of Portadown NPT, said, “I would also advise householders to confirm the identity of anyone who calls to your home requesting money. House to house collectors will usually carry identity with them.
“If you are unsure of someone’s identity you can ask them to call at a later time and contact the charity or police to confirm that collections are ongoing in your local area. If in doubt, contact us on 0845 600 8000.”
