THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Portadown yesterday as the Olympic Torch went through the streets of the town.

Torchbearers from Omagh, Ballywalter, Antrim, Toomebridge and Lisburn carried the Olympic symbol through the town.

The weather was particularly inclement as heavy rain fell, but it failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds who were two or three deep through the town centre and other routes.

The torch arrived in the town at Armagh Road, before travelling to Church Street, High Street, the Bann Bridge, Carrickblacker Road and Gilford Road.

Don’t miss our coverage of the event in this week’s Portadown Times. We will also have eight pages of coverage from all your Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Portadown.
