A DEPUTY care manager at Portadown’s Knock Eden Supported Living Fold facility in Edenderry Gardens - off the Killicomaine Road - has won an award a major caring award.
Pat McCready took the award in the NI Independent Care Awards 2012 “for her exceptional efforts looking after individuals and helping society”. She is in charge of training staff members and was the best of three finalists, winning the award for best care training initiative in Northern Ireland.
Pat developed a two-week induction programme for new recruits at Knock Eden, which has helped improve the atmosphere and morale at the home by reducing worry among new staff members. The awards, compered by TV personality Julian Simmons, were presented at a gala evening in the Ramada Hotel, Shaw’s Bridge, Belfast.
Julian said, “Pat has worked very hard at Knock Eden, and hearing about what she has achieved is heart-warming and inspiring. Carers provide a vital service, making people happier and more contented in their lives. I can’t think of another group of people more deserving of recognition.”
Knock Eden manager Christina Drainey, who nominated Pat for the award, said, “Pat takes the lead in our training scheme. She is devoted to ensuring that our staff members have the best and most up-to-date training possible – including helping them work towards outside qualifications like NVQs to improve their care and help them advance their careers.”
