TV man Peter to go extra miles at Berlin

RICHHILL journalist Peter Cardwell is taking it all in his stride as he aims to raise funds for the MS Society.
Peter, a reporter for UTV Live, is running the Berlin Marathon later this month to raise funds for the charity which supports local people affected by multiple sclerosis. Peter has also organised a special German-themed pub quiz which will be hosted by UTV Live presenter Marc Mallet at the King’s Head Pub, Belfast on Friday, September 21.
Peter said, “The death of my aunt, Sheila Morrow, in 2005, prompted members of my family to start fundraising for the MS Society. Chief amongst these has been my aunt Hazel Millar, who is the secretary of the Omagh branch of the MS Society. Cousins have done marathon relays, people have organised a tea party to name a few and now I’m doing the Berlin marathon on September 30.
“It would be great to see as many people as possible from the Portadown area at the table quiz on September 21. I know it’s a bit of a trek up the motorway, but there’s a Frankfurter and a bottle of German beer waiting for you at the end of it, as well as a great night’s craic and some excellent raffle prizes, including Ireland Six Nations rugby tickets, afternoon tea in the Merchant Hotel, a weekend in the Dunadry and many more.
“My housemate when I’m in Belfast, the BBC journalist Johnny Caldwell, kindly set the quiz, so anyone who has done his quizzes at Groucho’s in Richhill over the years will know they’re entertaining, witty and not too easy.”
He added, “I’m not a natural runner so the marathon really is a challenge for me but I really want to do something positive in memory of my aunt Sheila. Multiple sclerosis is the most common debilitating neurological condition affecting young adults. There are around 4,000 people in Northern Ireland living with MS, one of the highest rates in the world. All donations and funds raised will be used to support local people affected by the condition so please give generously or join our quiz night.”
