Woman in her 90s burgled
A WOMAN in her 90s was the victim of a ‘distraction’ burglary in Ballyoran Park on Friday night when she opened her door to a young boy.
The boy, believed to be aged between 10-16, called at the woman’s home and asked if he could use her phone as he had been with his father and had got lost.
The pensioner let him into the house but when he left she discovered that her handbag was missing.
She was not injured but was left badly shaken.
Yvonne Sterritt, chairman of Ballyoran Community Association and a member of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), said the woman’s kindness had been abused. She added, “Not only did she lose her handbag but she lost the contents of it - her purse, the keys of the house and various personal items. The locks of the house had to be changed the following day.”
She urged anyone with information to come forward, and reminded them they could do so anonymously by phoning Crimestoppers.
Detectives have also asked anyone who noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area or with information to contact them at Lurgan on 0845 600 8000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
