A magnet was used by a shoplifter to remove security tags from items he stole from Tesco, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

Alvydas Milasevicius (42), Thomas Street, Portadown, was fined £150 for the theft of items valued at £61.81 on January 7.

He was also fined £50 for going equipped for theft and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at approximately 1.30pm at Tesco in Meadow Lane police received a report that a shoplifter had been detained.

Milasevicius had a magnet with him which he used to remove the security tags from items. All goods were fit for re-sale.

A defence solicitor said it was a moment of madness and very amateurish.
