A 26-year-old man has been charged with theft after a street robbery in Portadown at the weekend.

Around 3am on Sunday, January 19 a 50-year-old woman was walking along Jervis Street when she was approached from behind and had her bag stolen. Police attended and arrested a 26-year-old man a short time later in the Armagh Road area.

He was subsequently charged with theft and appeared before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Police are appealing for information following the theft of a handbag from a property in Ballyoran Manor. It happened some time between 1.30pm and 6pm on Sunday. Police want to talk a male travelling in a maroon coloured van and called to homes in the area asking for scrap/electrical goods
