A heroin addict brought wraps of the drug from a man he met in Rushmere Shopping Centre, it was claimed last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Helder Azevedo (51), Hanover Street, Portadown, admitted unlawful possession of heroin on February 10 this year.
He was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
The court heard that police were carrying out a search of an address in Portadown when the defendant arrived. He had four wraps of heroin secreted in his sock.
He claimed he bought them from a man at Rushmere shopping centre.
A barrister representing the defendant said he had been in this country for 12 years and for the last three had been addicted to heroin.
She added that he had since checked into a treatment programme which seemed to be working.
