Man drove off at speed from police and struck sign

After driving off at speed from police a 44-year-old man hit a give way sign and later walked past police with a bottle of rum in his hand.

Correia Mendes Agostinho, Church Street, Portadown, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Court.

He admitted failing to provide a breath specimen, failing to stop, remain and report, driving without due care and attention, disorderly behaviour, obstructing police and resisting police.

The court heard that on August 23 at 12.30am police noticed a car being driven erratically in the Magowan Buildings car park.

As police approached it drove off at speed.

The vehicle continued onto the Northway, collided with a give way sign and was abandoned on Brownstown Road.

At 12.50am Agostinho walked past the police carrying a bottle of rum. He was verbally abusive to them and refused to provide a breath sample.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he would require a pre-sentence report.

Imposing an interim driving ban he adjourned the case so that a report could be prepared.
