After police found a 23-year-old man sleeping in the bathroom of a vacant house they discovered he was in possession of a class C drug.
Aaron Hughes, of no fixed abode, appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court by way of videolink from Maghaberry prison.
He admitted unlawful possession on February 23 this year of a class C drug, diazepam.
He was fined £200 and an immediate warrant was issued. He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that Hughes had been arrested in relation to another matter and he was discovered in possession of a small amount of diazepam.
A solicitor for the defendant said the other matter was a burglary for which he received a three-month sentence at the court the previous week.
He explained that Hughes had been homeless and had been found sleeping in a bath in unoccupied premises.
The solicitor added that later police were made aware he was not proscribed diazepam. It was his first drugs offence and he admitted it from the outset.
