Thirty two unsung heroes from across Craigavon recently received a Mayor’s Award for their outstanding contribution to their local community.
The local champions from Portadown, Lurgan and Brownlow attended a prestigious reception at Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre hosted by the Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Colin McCusker.
With citations presented by local well known television presenter Paul Clark, the community heroes enjoyed a sit down meal, music by pianist Mrs Mabel Gibson and then received a medal with a personalised scroll of honour from the Mayor.
“These people are without doubt the pillars of our society and the work that they do on their own time is truly invaluable,” commented the Mayor.
“This was the very last Mayor’s Awards to be hosted by Craigavon Borough Council before Local Government Reform and I was absolutely delighted to recognise 32 wonderful members of our community. I have been humbled by the contribution, commitment and dedication of these people to their communities and I know that thanks to their help, services and expertise, the lives of some people in Portadown, Lurgan and Craigavon are all the richer.”
The community awards were given out for a variety of services including work with young people, senior citizens, people with disabilities, church groups, youth clubs and charities to name a few.
