Motorbike overtook Land Rover on bend and was speeding

While riding a motorcycle belonging to a friend a 19-year-old man overtook a vehicle on a bend, Craigavon Court heard last Friday.

Leigh Jacobs, Alexandra Gardens, Portadown, was fined £250 and given six penalty points for not having insurance on April 17.

He was fined £75 for driving without due care and attention and £75 for speeding.

David McElroy (18) of Westland Road, Portadown, was fined £200, with six points, for permitting Jacobs to drive without insurance.

Both were also ordered to pay £15 offender levies.

The court heard that police saw Jacobs on a Yamaha 125, driving at speed on the Tandragee Road. He dangerously overtook a Land Rover on a bend and carried on at speed.

When he was stopped he said the bike belonged to his friend McElroy and admitted he did not have insurance.

Joe McDonald, representing both defendants, said McElroy did have insurance for the motorbike.

He explained he was out with Jacobs who asked him for a ride on the bike and he allowed him. It was a spur of the moment thing.
