A 22-year-old woman who now has nine points on her licence after an offence in Portadown will have to be the “driver of the year” for the next three years, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

Cliodhna O’Neill, Rowan Park, Craigavon, was fined £250 and given six points for permitting her boyfriend to drive without insurance on May 28.

She was also fined £90 for failing to notify of a change of keeper of a car.

At the same court Gerard Cushley (33), Derryola Bridge Road, Aghalee, was fined £250, and given six points for no insurance.

The court heard that at 3.20pm police stopped a car being driven by Cushley in High Street.

He produced a certificate at Lurgan police station which showed he was not covered to drive the vehicle at the time.

O’Neill said she did not realise the policy had been cancelled. She had also failed to change the registration of the vehicle to her own name.

Mr Richard Monteith, representing both defendants, explained that Cushley thought he was insured to drive his girlfriend’s car.
