Northway junction delays '˜to last another two days'

Motorists will have to put up with delays on the Northway for another two days, it has been revealed.

The tailbacks at the traffic lights leading into the town and towards Armagh and Dungannon have been particularly bad at morning and evening peak times.

The problem arose when the resurfacing scheme on the road began last week.

Alderman Robert Smith, who has received a number of complaints from frustrated drivers, contacted Transport NI and was told that the ‘loop’ traffic lights system had been introduced to accommodate the evening roadworks.

He said, “They can’t alternate the system to suit morning and evening traffic - it’s not that simple.

“The have apologised for the inconvenience and have pointed out that they are two days ahead of schedule which means they are hoping to finish on Thursday night.”

Alderman Smith was also assured that once the lights are altered on Thursday night/Friday morning, they will be better than they were originally.

In the interim, TransportNI are urging motorists to seek alternative routes if possible.
