During a time when he had ‘went off the rails’ a 20-year-old man stole a wireless speaker from the Tesco store in Portadown.

Jonathan Wallace, whose address was given as Simon Community, Belfast, was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for two years, last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

He admitted the theft of a red wireless speaker, valued at £21, from Tesco, Meadow Lane, Portadown, on July 18 last year.

The court heard that the bar code and security tag had been removed and Wallace left the store without paying for the speaker.

A barrister representing the defendant that for a number of months he had been homeless and had ‘went off the rails’.

He added that Wallace was the subject of suspended sentences and probation for other offences which happened around this time.
