The opening of a gate at The Beeches into Portadown’s People’s Park has been described as a victory for common sense.

Councillor Gemma McKenna (Sinn Fein) thanked council officers for working to ensure the People’s Park gate at The Beeches could be opened, allowing access for local residents in time for Summer.

Ms McKenna commented, “I have been working on this issue now for a number of months and recently met with council officers to highlight the need for the issues to be resolved and the gate opened in time for Summer.

“I welcome the fact that council has now access to the land, has put in a path and has opened the gate allowing access for hundreds of residents to the newly developed People’s Park.”

Cllr McKenna concluded, “The newly redeveloped People’s Park is an asset that people are extremely proud of and are keen to access and avail of on a regular basis.

“The access point at The Beeches allows children, families and wheelchair users to quickly and safely enter the park. I’m glad common sense has prevailed.”
