Bluestone Girls Brigade in Portadown held their own Girls’ Night In to support Cancer Focus Northern Ireland’s campaign for local breast cancer research.

GB leader Amanda McConnell and her fantastic team organised an evening of fun and fundraising while packing as much pink into the night as possible and raised a fantastic £225 for Cancer Focus NI.

Amanda McConnell said: “Cancer research is a cause close to all our hearts. When we saw the Cancer Focus NI Girls’ Night in campaign we thought it was a perfect match for us. We could have a fun night out with all the girls while raising money our local cancer charity, Cancer Focus NI.

“It was a great evening and the girls had so much fun. We had pink bath bomb making, a photo booth, face painting, hair station where pink ribbon was plaited into the girls hair and karaoke.

“We also had a craft workshop where the girls tied a pink ribbon around a posy of pink flowers with the Cancer Focus NI breast cancer logo attached, which they brought them home to their mums.

We were all dressed suitably in pink of course!”

Suzie Colledge, Community Fundraising Officer for Cancer Focus NI, said: “I want to thank Amanda and all the leaders for organising this hugely successful pink fundraiser for such a worthy cause.

“It’s great to see these young girls involved in fundraising for their local cancer charity. All the money raised will be used to fund our fourth year of breast cancer research at Queens University Belfast.”

As well as funding major research into breast cancer at Queen’s University Belfast, Cancer Focus NI offers a wide range of services including counselling, support groups, a family service, bra and swimwear fitting for mastectomy patients, art therapy, Beauty for Life and stop smoking sessions.

The charity also carries out cancer prevention projects in schools, sports clubs, leisure centres and other community venues to help improve the health of your community and lower your risk of cancer.
