‘R’ driver’s licence is revoked after driving without insurance

Six penalty points imposed on a Portadown man last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court means that he will have his licence revoked and he will have to sit his test again.

Nineteen-year-old Christopher James Chambers, Derryvinney Road, Portadown, was also fined £200 for driving without insurance on October 31.

As well he was fined £40 for failing to produce his licence and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that police checks revealed there was no active insurance policy in force at the time.

The defendant also did not produce his driving documents.

A solicitor for the defendant said he was training as a mechanic.

He had bought the car to fix up and use himself. He was taking it for a spin to see how it was running.

He added that Chambers was an ‘R’ driver and this would mean his licence would be revoked and he would have to sit the test again.
