A Portadown man claims the public are getting a “raw deal” after Cascades was once again closed over the May bank holiday.
In a letter to this week’s Times, Peter Stephens highlighted the repeated closures of the Portadown facility over the holiday periods.
“Another Bank Holiday and another day when the Portadown public are denied the chance to use the facilities at the town’s leisure centre,” he said.
“The centre was closed for two weeks at Christmas, a few days at Easter and also the early May bank holiday Monday. It is also closed every Sunday.
Members of Cascades like me are getting a raw deal. We pay £30 a month to use the facilities and already lose one day a week due to the Sunday closing.
“I was told by Craigavon council that it was uneconomical to keep the centre open all the time. But running a leisure centre should be about more than profit and loss. What about providing much-needed facilities for ratepayers?
Hopefully the new ABC ‘super-council’ will make a better fist of managing our leisure facilities.”
